Introduction to KC Mark Certification

On August 25, 2008, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) of South Korea announced that the National Standards Committee will implement a new national unified certification mark called the 'KC Mark' mark from July 2009 to December 2010.

The new logo is called KC Mark, representing Korea Certification. The current 13 mandatory signs will eventually be unified under this new sign. One result of this measure is to reduce the cost of certification for suppliers, gradually making KC Mark in Korea a certification brand for the world. But there is a drawback. The recently issued KCC logo will only be implemented for a few years and will eventually be unified under this new KC logo.

Future Implementation Plan for KC Mark Certification

December 2008: Update of National Basic Regulations and Current Laws and Regulations

July 2009: MKE began implementing national unified labeling

January 2009- December 2010: Improving regulations related to certification standards

January 2011: Complete national unified marking to all mandatory certifications

KC Mark Certified Product Catalog

According to the Korean Electrical Equipment Safety Management Law, the KC Mark Certification Products List includes two types of electrical equipment safety certification: mandatory certification and voluntary certification starting from January 1, 2009.

Compulsory certification refers to all electronic products that belong to the mandatory category must obtain KC Mark certification before they can be sold in the Korean market. They need to undergo factory inspections and product sampling tests every year.

Self regulatory (voluntary) certification refers to all electronic products that belong to the voluntary category, which only require testing to obtain certificates and do not require factory review. The certificate is valid for 5 years.

Technical documents required to apply for KC Mark certification

KC MARK certification will replace EK MIC MARK certification

The biggest impact among them is that South Korea will classify AV products, some IT products, and Power Supplies for Personal Computer, which were originally non mandatory, as 'Voluntary Safety Verification' with a certificate validity period of five years. The audio and video products and some information products that have applied for EK mark will be automatically converted to new categories in the system of the Korean certification unit, and the certificate validity period is from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2013.

In addition, from July 1, 2009, South Korea unified the original EK mark as KC (Korea Certification) mark certification. Since the symbol conversion did not affect the certification safety standards, the original certificate does not need to be updated in any version. However, the original EK mark certification will only be used until June 30, 2011, and the logo on the product nameplate must be converted to KC MARK certification before it can be sold in South Korea.
